Bleeding after intercourse not normal

DEAR DR. GOTT: I am a healthy 60-year-old woman. When I have sexual relations with my husband, there is always some bleeding. Is this normal for people our age? Could the blood be in my husband’s semen? Should both of us see our doctors? We always go to the doctor for our yearly check-ups. Please advise us what to do.

DEAR READER: You should see your doctors who, I am sure, will test you both. The bleeding may be nothing to worry about but let’s make certain. Bleeding during intercourse is not common and does not reflect the aging process.
