Farewell Dr. Gott

DEAR READERS: It is with great sadness that the family and office staff of Dr. Peter Gott announce that he passed away rather abruptly on June 13th. He was the most widely read syndicated medical columnist in the country for almost 30 years and took enormous pride in writing his column.

In his honor, his staff will remain in place and will present a column both in newspapers and through his website six days each week. We are completely familiar with his style, his wit and frank, easy-to-understand responses to readers questions, and we look forward to providing the service. We are the first to admit we may not project the same dry humor he so tongue-in-cheek imparted on his readers, but we will make every effort to continue the tradition. The delightful thing about Dr. Gott is that he wasn’t afraid to criticize doctors, himself included, for their shortcomings, their proclivity to park in inappropriate areas of the hospital parking lot so they wouldn’t have to walk so far, or to make patients wait unnecessarily while they finalized stock transactions with their brokers. He made that very clear throughout his illustrious career. As was his habit, all work was edited by an emergency room board certified physician who will continue to provide the service. Because he was so far ahead on his writing, we have several months worth of his copy on file ready to come your way.

Because some newspapers only print on a weekly basis while others print every day, this notice will appear today, Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th. This will give readers who might miss Saturday’s announcement to understand what has transpired. Normal copy will be back for your reading enjoyment on Monday morning.

So, readers keep those letters coming either through the U. S. Mail to Dr. Gott’s office, PO Box 433, Lakeville, CT 06039 or through his website that will remain www.AskDrGottMD.com. Dr. Gott’s Health Reports and No Flour, No Sugar Diet books will continue to be available for purchase through our office as they were previously.
